- Thomas Lingard died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme 1 July 1916, Thomas was 21 years old



The first day on the Somme was, in terms of casualties, the worst day in the history of the British army, which suffered 57,470 casualties.

One the first day of the battle the 16th Battalion (1st Bradford) lost 22 officers, and 493 men

Thomas Lingard was born 27 Nov 1894 and died 1 July 1916.

John Henry Lingard and members of his family are buried at Undercliffe.
